Wonder Woods
Today I was volunteering at Wonder Woods, an outdoor nursery located in West Calder. Their ethos is to promote outdoor play, which is commendable in Scotland of all places, so I was asked to come and photograph natural photos of the nursery children playing and interacting with the facilities. While I am sadly unable to show these photos, the nursery itself was very impressive and contained plenty of handmade structures and playhouses. As well as this, there was an entire garden with a small shed made of recycled plastic bottles.
During one of their play sessions, I took photos of children interacting with one another and learning about different bugs throughout the woodlands. Very quickly, I understood the saying “Never work with children or animals”. The difficulties that come with photographing hyper children that are interested in the new person with a camera cannot be understated. As well as this, the charity only got permission from 8/25 children which was another hurdle that I had to work around.
Despite this, I am very pleased with how the photos came out as well as the charity. As such, the photos are planned to be used for promotional material but until then I cannot share the content. What I can share, is some of the photos I took of the site itself, of which will also be used for promotion. I plan to return at a later date to take more photos, of which I feel I am now more prepared for.
