An Experiment with Lighting

On my upcoming project, Pulsar, we took the opportunity to spend a day in a pitch black studio practicing test shots. By utilising Amaran lights, gel packs and an outdated overhead spotlight, we were able to create some extremely dynamic shots.

As well as this equipment, I found that dynamic lighting doesn’t always require proper equipment. One of my favourite shots came from simply having a projector blast a simple blue screen. The grainy effect it has when projected onto a face, while surrounding them behind, gives some seriously cool imagery in my opinion.

I feel the photos speak for themselves, and in my opinion are the key technical aspect that help elevate the tone and atmosphere of my project. Going forward, I can see myself dedicating more time and energy towards lighting my shots when I otherwise would’ve not prioritised.
